About SA Dog Rehoming

SA Dog Rehoming is a free public guide run by the same team as SA Yorkie Rescue, Small Dog Rescue and Little Doggy Rescue. It is not a rescue and does not take dogs in. We list organisations transparently — including our own — so you always know who is helping you and where your dog may go.

Who owns and manages SA Dog Rehoming?

SA Dog Rehoming was created and is managed by the animal welfare specialists behind SA Yorkie Rescue, Small Dog Rescue, and Little Doggy Rescue. Having operated non-profit breed rescue networks, veterinary rehabilitation programmes, and home-vetting processes across South Africa for many years, our team recognized the critical need for a centralized, transparent rehoming resource. We built this platform to provide objective guidance for dog owners of all breeds and sizes, helping them navigate challenging life transitions safely.

How is this platform funded?

SA Dog Rehoming operates as a free public benefit service and receives no commercial sponsorships, paid promotional placements, or affiliate commissions. We do not charge animal shelters to be listed in our directory, nor do we charge owners for accessing our rehoming router and guidance materials. All hosting and maintenance costs are supported independently as part of our ongoing commitment to improving animal welfare standards across South Africa.

How do we decide which organisations to list?

Our listing methodology in South Africa is grounded in transparency and accountability. Organisations listed in our directory are verified as reputable, actively operating welfare organisations — registered NPO/PBO status is a strong trust signal where it exists but is not a requirement. Listed organisations operate a clear physical or foster-based rescue programme, uphold strict sterilisation and vaccination standards, and maintain published contact channels for public surrenders. Listings are re-verified on a six-monthly cycle where possible. We never list commercial breeders, brokers, or individuals offering private sales.

What can SA Dog Rehoming not do?

It is important to understand the operational scope and boundaries of SA Dog Rehoming. SA Dog Rehoming is an informational and routing guide — not a physical animal shelter, boarding kennel, or emergency veterinary hospital. We cannot take in surrendered dogs directly through this website, guarantee that a specific shelter has open kennels on any given day, dispatch animal rescue officers, or provide financial subsidies. We provide the accurate knowledge and clear pathways so owners can connect directly with the appropriate statutory or non-profit bodies.

How can organisations update their details or request removal?

We respect the autonomy and operational workload of every South African animal rescue organisation. If an organisation wishes to update its intake criteria, provide new contact numbers, or request immediate removal from our directory, they can submit a request through our Corrections page. All verified removal requests are processed within 48 hours without friction.
